Clean Grout Between Floor Tiles At Home

Posted On September 19th, 2017

Floors look messy if there is dirty grout between the floor tiles. This grout is hard to get rid of even after mopping the floor regularly. You can however give your floors a fresher look by cleaning the grout between the tiles. Follow the methods below to learn how to do that.

Method 1: Use Baking Soda and Vinegar

Mix baking soda and water in 3:1 ratio to make a thick paste. This mixture can be used as a versatile cleaner to clean grout between floor tiles. All you need to do is apply the paste to the grout lines with your finger using rubber gloves.

While this mixture sits between the grout lines, make a solution of water and vinegar in a spray bottle using equal quantities of both. Spray the solution on the mixture over the grout and watch the bubbling reaction. This indicates the cleaning process has begun. Scrub the grout lines with a brush after it stops bubbling. Lastly mop the floor with just plain water to remove baking soda and vinegar residues.

Method 2: Cleaning with Oxygenated Bleach

Make a mixture by dissolving 2 tablespoons of oxygenated bleach into 2 cups of warm water to be used immediately so that the oxygen bleach is fully activated. Test a small area of the tiled floor first to ensure the colour of the tiles does not get affected. Pour the mixture enough to fully cover the grout lines.

Let the bleach solution to sit for several minutes before scrubbing with a nylon brush. Focus on the corners and edges of the tiles as dirt accumulates the most there. You can also dip the cleaning brush in the oxygenated bleach powder to increase the cleaning strength. In the end, pour clean water on the tile floor and mop it.

Method 3: Cleaning Grout using Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda and Dish Soap

Start by making a paste of 3 parts of baking soda to 1-part hydrogen peroxide and a tiny amount of dish soap. Apply this mixture using the nylon bristled brush between the tiles uniformly. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes or till the bubbling of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide stops completely. Then pour hot water over the tile floor to remove the solution. Mop the floor with clean water to get rid of any residues.
