Tile is famous for its water resistance capabilities and easy cleaning. Your tile floors, walls, and countertops will look great and last for years with the right maintenance routine. There are different ways you can take care and maintain your tiles to elongate the shine and life of it.
Let’s have a look at a few of them below:
Simply sweep or vacuum the floors for the removal of any dust or debris before using any cleaning products. Then using a damp-mop, mop your tiled floor at least once a week or more frequently if it is a heavily used area, to decrease wear and abrasion from grit and soil.
Clean on a regular basis using an all-purpose, non-oil-based household cleaner that is compatible with Cleaning Grout Joints. You can also use an everyday multipurpose spray cleaner to remove any soap scum, hard water deposits, and mildew on wall tiles in your bathroom or toilet.
Unglazed tiles can be cleaned using concentrated tile cleaners that have a neutral pH for regular cleaning. These cleaners remove grease, oils, and normal spills safely. Do check before usage if the cleaner is intended for the required application, use, and the traffic level. However, Glass Tiles should be cleaned with any non-abrasive cleaner recommended for either glass or tile.
1. If you have scouring powders and sealants, test them on a small area first before cleaning the full area.
2. Use products compatible with cleaning grout joints and use a sealer on grout joints shortly after installation.
3. Rinse the entire area with clear water to remove any cleaning solution residue after cleaning.
4. Remove and replace any damaged or broken tile only by a qualified tile contractor.
For an extra layer of protection to your tile floors, invest in high-quality floor mats and protective pads under heavy furniture. Placing floor mats at entrances and exits can collect and trap corrosive substances that can be tracked in, like dirt, sand, oil, grit, asphalt, or even driveway sealer. An effective way to reduce tile wear in high-traffic areas – in front of vanities, kitchen sinks, and stoves – is placing mats.
1. Any cleaners containing acid or bleach should not be used at all for routine maintenance.
2. Use sealants on grout joints only and avoid wax based cleaners and oil-based detergents for cleaning.
3. Steel wool pads, scouring pads, brushes or any other harsh cleaning aids containing metal should not be used on tile.
4. Never clean an unglazed tile with an agent that contains colour.
